Volker Hassemer
Spokesperson of the Initiative "A Soul for Europe"
Volker Hassemer was a Berlin senator for 13 years.
1981-1983 Senator for Urban Development and Environmental Protection and
1983-1989 Senator for Cultural Affairs.
He was responsible for the "Urban Development and Environmental Protection" department,
which he also conceived, for 7 years, among other things, for Berlin's urban development planning after the reunification of Berlin in 1989.
He was responsible for two large-scale events in the Berlin government: City anniversary -
"750 Years Berlin" and "European Cultural Capital".
Volker Hassemer initiated numerous Berlin projects, e.g. The House of World Cultures, Literaturhaus, Bildhauerwerkstatt, and several events dealing with the turn of the millennium.
In his capacity as chairman of the managing board of "Partner für Berlin" Gesellschaft Hauptstadt-Marketing mbH until 2002, Volker Hassemer was the mastermind and initiator of major events of international impact, such as "Schaustelle Berlin", "Long Night of Museums" (the prototype of "long nights" at other places in Europe), and the "European Film Prize" on the occasion of the Berlin events surrounding the "European Cultural Capital".
