From the airport to the hotel

Budapest has three airports, close to one another, Ferihegy 1, 2A and 2B. Ferihegy 1 is operated by discount airlines. All three airports are some 18 km away from the city centre.

There are three ways to get to the city from any of the airports: by taxi, by shuttle bus and by regular municipal bus / metro.

by taxi:

The taxis standing in front of the terminals have the sole right to service the airport, and they use their status of monopoly accordingly when setting prices.

To get around this situation is simple.

Unless you want to pay more than what all the other taxi companies would ask for, you may want to consider to simply CALL a taxi of your choice.

Taxi operators speak English, the language skills of taxi drivers vary.

Upon calling an operator you will be asked about name, your mobile number and your whereabouts (Terminal 1, 2A or 2B). Remember mentioning that you want a TRANSFER (thus, the price is fixed - see below).

Your cab will pick you up in just 1-2 minutes - taxis of all the other companies wait just outside of the airport. Remember to ask the operator for the make (and/or colour) of the taxi that is sent to you.

The set price for an airport transfer to any destination is between HUF 3800 (cca. 15 €) and HUF 4300 (cca. 17 €) PER CAB and not per person. Sharing is allowed but all of you need to have the same destination. Depending on the traffic you should expect to be in the city centre in 30-40 minutes.

You may want to call one of these numbers:

Taxi 2000 +361 200 0000
Budataxi +361 233 3333
Tele 5 Taxi +361 355 5555
City Taxi +361 211 1111

by shuttle bus:

The LRI Airport Shuttle provides convenient door-to-door service between the airport and any address in the city. To get to the city, make arrangements at LRI's airport desk; to get to the airport, call to arrange a pickup (phone: +361 296-8555). Service from or to either terminal costs 2,300 Ft. per person; since it normally shuttles several people at once, remember to allow time for a few other pickups or drop-offs. The service is available from 5.00 am to 1.00 am.

by public transportation (bus and subway):

The cheapest solution of all. The service 'Reptéri busz' (Airport line), operates from early morning to late at night with a 15 minutes frequency and links all three airports to the M3 subway line. At Terminal 1, the bus stop is located on the main street (and NOT right in front of the airport), the bus stop at terminal 2 is between the two (A nd B) terminals on the arrival level. It takes about 25 minutes to reach the metro station (M3, Kőbánya-Kispest).

Tickets are sold for HUF 170,- by the news agent at the airport, at a vendor machine at the bus stop, or directly by the bus driver for HUF 190,-

From Kőbánya-Kispest metro terminal it's an additional 25 minute journey to the city centre. Please note that you need to validate another ticket for the subway ride. Tickets can be purchased at the news agent at the entrance of the metro terminal.

How to get around in Budapest

Please note that Budapest is a biggish city with some two-million inhabitants. All the hotels, the Parliament and also the Palace of Arts are in the inner part of the city, however, nothing is within reasonable walking distance. Expect a 20-30 minutes ride on trams, buses or on the subway between any of the hotels and venues.

Miscellaneous / most important

Dress code, that is.
Although the venues of the conference and the title and standing of some participants may make you wonder what to put on, we would kindly advise you get over this riddle quickly and pick from your garderobe clothes only that you would feel comfortable with wearing. There is no special dress code for any of the events.

There is, however, an advise you would want to keep in mind: Some of the Turkish baths in the city welcome and treat male and female visitors separately. There, you need nothing to take with. The mixed baths, however will require that you come with your swimming gear and a towel.

Looking forward to welcoming you soon in Budapest.
